Montrose is a Royal Burgh situated on the coast of Angus, Scotland on the main line railway, within easy reach of Aberdeen and Dundee. It’s also home to a busy shipping port, the hinterland produces quality soft fruit as well as grain for distilleries. Nearby are the National Trust, House of Dun, Glamis Castle and the spectacular Dunnottar Castle. Montrose museum dates back to 1840. The Montrose Air station is a must for anyone interested in its role in two world wars. The Grampian hills are a walkers paradise reached by quiet unspoilt scenic roads. Edzell Castle and J.M.Barries birthplace, the inspiration for Peter Pan, are close by.
Whether you drive or take the train, Dundee is only half an hour away. The V&A and Discovery Point are sure to be a highlight of anyone visiting the city.

Wildlife & Walks
Visit the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Montrose Basin Visitor Centre, home to over 50,000 migrating birds. Montrose Basin reserve is close by. In summer ospreys can be seen fishing in the basin, along with kingfishers and internationally important numbers of waders and wildfowl. 80,000 pink footed geese over winter at the Montrose Basin. Nearby, puffins can be seen at Crawton in season, the SNH St Cyrus nature reserve is also close. The loch of Lowes is 50 miles from Montrose.
For those who enjoy hillwalking and Munros, the Cairngorms Mountain Range is only an hour drive from Montrose. There are a number of trails with breathtaking views of Angus!
